Gary Helfrich

Director of the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition

Gary began building bicycles in the 1970s. He helped found Merlin Bicycles. He taught titanium welding and construction at Ibis, and was regarded as an artist among frame builders.

As a Planner for Sonoma County, Gary was the driving force behind the Sonoma County Bike Plan to ensure that bicycles would be included in the county transportation plan.

In 2011, Gary became the director of the SCBC. His goal is to make the organization a county-wide presence, not just limited to the Santa Rosa area.

Gary lives in Camp Meeker and commutes everywhere by bicycle.
